Jeju Juju Co., Ltd. of E-Mart, which has been ambitious in the liquor industry, withdraws from the soju market.
E-Mart official on the 4th [제주의소리]He said, “We withdrew from the Jeju Jujuju business and stopped producing soju from today (4th).”
To the question,’Will you sell Jeju Juju-ju?’, an E-Mart official replied, “The sale has not been decided,” and “We will not sell the Jeju factory and the site, but will continue to think about how to use it.”
Accordingly, E-Mart, which entered the soju market by acquiring Jeju Juju in 2016, withdrew from the business after five years.
Jeju Juju was established as’Jeju Cheonsu’ in August 2011 with a capital of 2.5 billion won. Jeju Cheonsu launched Soju with 18 degrees of alcohol and’Sandoron’ with an alcohol content of 18 degrees in 2014, but was sold to E-Mart in 2016 after suffering a deficit due to distribution competition.
E-Mart, which has a nationwide distribution network, entered the soju market with confidence, and was called’Jeong Yong-jin Soju’ as it is known that Shinsegae Vice Chairman Jeong Yong-jin, known as a soju lover, led the acquisition of Jeju Soju-ju.
However, it has recorded 1% of the country’s soju market share, as it has been unable to change the minds of soju consumers who seldom change the liquor they usually drink.
Last year, there were rumors that it was sold to Whiskey Company G, but it was finally decided to withdraw the business.
Jeju Juju-ju has a 6662㎡ factory on a site of 28597㎡ in Wasan-ri, Jocheon-eup, Jeju-si. The Jeju Juju plant can withdraw 150 tons of groundwater from Jeju per day, and can produce up to 24 million bottles of soju per hour.
