Drivers often commit violations at e-charging stations. Now the surprising result of a focus inspection by the public order office is available.

Last week, the public order office carried out priority checks on the e-charging stations in the Düsseldorf city area. The aim of the campaign was to ensure that the charging stations are used properly. Drivers of electric cars who do not have charging options at home or at work should also be able to charge their vehicles. The results of the key inspections are now available.

194 warnings were issued and 14 vehicles were towed. It turned out that combustion vehicles were not the main cause of the warnings. Only about a quarter of the warnings (50 of 194) concerned vehicles with internal combustion engines. The majority of violations, however, related to electric vehicles themselves. In most cases, the necessary parking disc was not installed. The smaller proportion received a warning for failure to load.

Of the 14 vehicles that were towed, six were with combustion engines and eight were electric vehicles that were parked at the stations without being charged. The city announced that the controls will continue after the focus campaign to ensure the use of the charging infrastructure.

The public order office appeals to all vehicle drivers to only use the e-charging stations in accordance with the regulations and to use the areas exclusively for the intended group of users (with “E” in the license plate) and for the actual purpose, namely charging electric vehicles.

Most parking spaces at e-charging stations are marked with a blue “P” and only allow parking for e-vehicles while charging for a maximum of one or four hours. Only a few e-charging facilities are still marked with the “absolute no parking” traffic sign, which only allows e-vehicles to park while charging. In both cases, parking is generally only permitted for charging.
