Dyson Introduces Augmented Reality Vacuuming with CleanTrace Feature for Gen5detect Vacuum Cleaner

  • Dyson introduced a “revolutionary” innovation in vacuuming
  • In conjunction with your smartphone, it will show you where you have already vacuumed and which places you have missed
  • The CleanTrace feature will be available for the Gen5detect vacuum cleaner in June this year

Vacuuming is one of the human activities that only a small percentage of us enjoy doing. Although modern technology has brought us robotic vacuum cleaners that largely automate this boring but necessary activity, not everyone has a suitable household for this type of cleaning and is therefore forced to reach for a classic vacuum cleaner. Although technology companies are trying their best, traditional vacuum cleaners can be meaningfully integrated into a smart home only with great difficulty. However, Dyson has now come up with a rather curious solution.

Dyson will enrich its stick vacuum cleaners with augmented reality

The leading manufacturer of premium home appliances has come up with a rather curious gadget that could easily be presented on April Fool’s Day. A new feature called CleanTrace will help you with your vacuuming by using your smartphone and augmented reality to accurately map the places you’ve already vacuumed and the ones you’ve missed. Dyson says it was inspired by its 360 Vis Nav robotic cleaner, which already knows exactly where it’s cleaned and where to head next. “We realized that we could learn a lot from the methodical approach of our robotic vacuum cleaners,” said Charlie Park, Vice President of Dyson Home.

“Unlike most human cleaners, Dyson robots know where they are in the room, where they have been and where they need to go. With Dyson CleanTrace technology, we add this extra layer of cleaning intelligence to the Gen5detect vacuum cleaner. It gives you the ability to see where you’ve cleaned and where you haven’t, which combined with our built-in particle sensing technology provides proof that the floor really is clean.” Park believes. The CleanTrace feature for the Gen5detect vacuum cleaner is expected to be available in June, although the company has not yet released more specific information.

Although we at SMARTmania are fans of smart technology, we’re shaking our heads a little at Dyson’s new product. You don’t need a college degree to vacuum your floor, and if you often forget where you’ve vacuumed your floor in the frenzy of cleaning, you probably have a much bigger problem than just dirt on your floor. Smart technology should make people’s jobs easier, which CleanTrace certainly will, but in this case we can’t help but feel that Dyson is making fools of its customers.
