Dynamo sign Brandon Borrello

Attacking midfielder will sign until June 30, 2023

SG Dynamo Dresden signed Brandon Borrello on Saturday. The 25-year-old attacking midfielder is moving from Bundesliga club SC Freiburg to the sports community and has signed a two-year contract with Dynamo until June 30, 2023. Both clubs have agreed not to disclose the terms of the transfer.

Borrello, who was loaned to second division Fortuna Düsseldorf last season, will be number 25 at SGD in the future.

The Australian with Italian roots first successfully completed the mandatory medical check at the Carl Gustav Carus University Hospital in Dresden on Friday and then traveled to the SGD training camp in Heilbad Heiligenstadt on Saturday to sign the contract. In the test match against Eintracht Braunschweig, the newcomer will not yet be part of head coach Alexander Schmidt’s squad, but will complete an individual unit.

Borrello was born on July 25th, 1995 in the south of Australia in Adelaide and moved to the youth department of Brisbane Roar in 2011. For his youth club, he first played in the National Youth League. In the 2013/14 season he was named the best player in the youth league by the Australian Football Association.

After four years in the A-League, Australia’s top division, the 1.78-meter-tall right-footed player dared to move to Germany in 2017, where he joined the then second division club 1. FC Kaiserslautern. A season later, SC Freiburg signed him, despite a previously suffered cruciate ligament tear.

The three-time Australian international played seven appearances in the Bundesliga for Breisgau before being loaned to Fortuna Düsseldorf last season. The 25-year-old scored one goal in 22 second division games for the Rhinelander.

Borrello has already played a total of 41 games in the 2nd Bundesliga in which he scored four times and prepared eight goals.

He took part in continental championships with Australian youth national teams in 2014 and 2016. In June 2019, he made his debut for the Australian national team by substituting in a friendly against South Korea, for which he has played three times since then.
