Dynamo Dresden Seeks New Directors to Strengthen Team and Off-Pitch Operations

Dynamo is feverishly working on a powerful team for the coming season. But new staff is also being sought off the pitch. For example two directors. BILD explains the current state of affairs.

The positions were advertised in the spring. On the one hand for the managing director of finances, because Jürgen Wehlend (57) is retiring at his own request. On the other hand, for the first time there will be a Communications Director, a kind of senior position.

After intensive discussions with the Supervisory Board, favorites have emerged for both positions. A final decision should not be long in coming.

A hot candidate is David Fischer (38), most recently managing director of 1. FC Saarbrücken for seven years.

The new one(s) should get on board as soon as possible in order to work full throttle on the Rise 2024 mission.

Also because the current constellation threatens to become a serious problem: BILD learned that there should be increasing differences in the association’s cooperation with Wehlend, who will officially be in office until the end of the year.

Dynamo’s sporting goal is clear: promotion to the second division in 2024!

So should, among other things, the relationship with the head of sports Ralf Becker (52) be tense.

Background: Since his contract extension after relegation a year ago, Becker has consistently pursued only one goal: promotion by 2024 at the latest. “I can also be measured by that,” he recently clarified.

One thing is certain: in order to achieve this, Dynamo take a calculable risk and don’t cut the budget. In order to make the team even better according to the ideas of coach Markus Anfang.

But Wehlend has a different opinion on the strategic orientation. He prefers to plan more defensively and not take any financial risks.

Which is surprising for two reasons: Firstly, a budget cut would make promotion in the coming season much more difficult if not impossible. On the other hand, Wehlend will soon be gone, so the club’s plans are no longer in his hands anyway.

Squad planning becomes a problem

In any case, squad planning is now becoming a problem: because both managing directors have to sign every transfer, but Becker is reluctant to let Wehlend look at his cards. After all, he could soon be working for a Dynamo competitor.

There are also said to be critical voices about Wehlend’s work from the office. He has been at odds with the active fan scene for a long time and was recently disinvited from the regular meeting.

In short: the potential for conflict is great! This has not gone unnoticed by the Supervisory Board either. That is why the committee is stepping on the gas pedal when it comes to filling the positions of managing director. This could release Wehlend in a timely manner.

When asked by BILD, Wehlend himself says: “Until the end of my contract period, I will of course be fully committed to Dynamo Dresden. If the Supervisory Board appoints a new management board before January 1, 2024, I would be available to advise them on an orderly transition until the end of the year.”

The ideal solution would probably be a clean cut before the start of the season in order to avoid unnecessary disruptive fire in the 2nd Bundesliga project!
