Dynamo Dresden hopes for cup surprise against Düsseldorf

Dynamo Dresden will make its comeback in the DFB Cup on Sunday evening. After a one-year break, the Black and Yellows will be back in the first round and will face second division team Fortuna Düsseldorf at their home Rudolf Harbig Stadium. The match will kick off at 6 p.m. The last time the two teams met was two years ago, when they drew 2-2 in the 2nd Bundesliga.

Head coach Thomas Stamm, who will be making his DFB Cup debut in this match, is confident: “We want to show our best side and deliver a strong game.” With Christoph Daferner, Dynamo has a player who was recently playing for Fortuna. The 26-year-old striker was loaned to Düsseldorf from Nuremberg last season and made 17 appearances.

Dynamo has made a strong start in the third division and is leading the table with six points after victories against Viktoria Köln and Energie Cottbus. Düsseldorf reached the semi-finals of the DFB Cup last season, where they lost 4-0 to Bayer Leverkusen. The Fortuna team also made a successful start to the new second division season, with a win and a draw, without conceding a goal.

The hosts will still be without Tom Zimmerschied and Tom Berger, but the rest of the squad is ready. The match on Sunday is expected to have a full spectator capacity of 30,000 fans, including 1,900 away fans.
