Dynamo Dresden against VfB Stuttgart II – the line-up
Compared to the 0-2 derby defeat in Aue, there were two changes to the starting eleven. Lars Büning played for Lukas Boeder, Oliver Batista Meier was preferred over Robin Meißner. Captain Stefan Kutschke had to sit in the stands due to a yellow-red card suspension.
Jakob Zickler (18), the son of former Dynamo striker and later Bayern professional Alexander Zickler, was part of the professional squad in the 3rd division for the first time and even made a brief appearance in the final phase. New signing Jonas Sterner, who was loaned from Holstein Kiel shortly before the end of the transfer window, made his debut in the 66th minute of the game.
Dynamo Dresden against VfB Stuttgart II – how the game went
The young Stuttgart players were very bold at the beginning and took the initiative. With mobile attacking players like Jarzinho Malanga and Bejamin Boakye, they created a lot of movement in the Dresden half. The strong Stuttgart left-back Moussa Cisse was no longer part of the team. The 21-year-old Frenchman had moved to FC Basel shortly before the end of the transfer period.
Dynamo reacted to Stuttgart’s ball circulation in the style of a top team. After VfB lost the ball, Vinko Sapina reacted quickly and with a remarkable pass, Christoph Daferner gave Dynamo the lead (15th minute). Sapina also had a great chance to score a second goal before half-time (31st minute) with a header. Stuttgart’s keeper Dennis Seimen, who has a market value of one million euros, deflected the ball onto the crossbar with a brilliant save.
While Stuttgart no longer dared to push forward, Dynamo took more and more control of the game as the game progressed.
After the break, Dresden played with a numerical advantage from the 55th minute onwards. Samuele di Benedetto was shown the yellow-red card after a failed tackle.
Thanks to the outstanding vision of midfielder Sapina, Dresden controlled the game without any problems. The one-sided match was decided at the latest after the 2-0 goal by the 19-year-old Menzel (72nd minute).
Dynamo Dresden – Apology from Kutschke
The suspended Dynamo captain Stefan Kutschke apologized before the game for his choice of words in the dispute with Martin Männel from Erzgebirge Aue. The two captains had an emotional duel in the derby. Kutschke was even shown the yellow-red card in the 83rd minute after various disputes.
The argument continued long after the final whistle. In front of the dressing room, Kutschke went one step further in a conversation with Aue coach Dotchev. He “wishes this person no good,” Kutschke said, according to “Tag24,” adding with a view to Männel: “He will get his proper punishment.” Kutschke reportedly said other things as well – albeit in foul language.
On Saturday, Kutschke said sorry. The 35-year-old stressed this to Magenta-Sport: “I have no problem saying that it was a mistake. The choice of words was not right and will never happen again,” said Kutschke. He also paid a fine into the team’s coffers, reported the leading player. However, there was no contact with his opponent Martin Männel, reported Kutschke.
After his yellow-red card, Stefan Kutschke had to watch the game between Dynamo Dresden and VfB Stuttgart II from the stands.

Dynamo Dresden against VfB Stuttgart II – Comments on the game
Niklas Hauptmann (Dynamo Dresden): “There was a phase in which we were very deep. We were chasing a lot. It was very exhausting, we used up a lot of energy. The 1-0 obviously helped us. And the yellow-red card was the crucial point. VfB has a lot of good footballers. We really wanted the second goal. You have to be careful to keep your balance.”
Lars Bünning (Dynamo Dresden): “We let ourselves be pushed back a little too far in the early stages. We discussed that at half-time. After the break with the yellow-red card, it was almost more difficult to continue playing eleven against eleven. I think we did a good job of that and kept going until the end. I’m very satisfied.”
Vinko Sapina (Dynamo Dresden): “Before the 1-0, VfB had a phase of possession in which we had to stand very deep. I don’t think that’s a bad thing, we defended well anyway. We were very compact. The timing of the first goal was very important. Then the possession ratio changed.”
