Dynamo Basketball Triumphs Over BARS-RGEU to Advance in Russian Cup: Match Highlights and Next Steps

Primorsky basketball club “Dynamo” defeated “BARS-RGEU” (Rostov-on-Don) in the return match of the 1/16 final of the Russian Cup with a score of 93:78 and, based on the total points in two games (165: 162), advanced to the next stage of the prestigious tournament. Ivan Strebkov, who had 20 points, was the most productive player of the meeting in Vladivostok. In the quarterfinals, Alexey Golyakhov’s team will meet the winner of the pair Temp-SUMZ – University-Ugra.

Three weeks ago, at the beginning of the new season, Dynamo and BARS-RGEU held the first cup match. Primorye was ahead in the game in Rostov-on-Don, but in the second half they lost the initiative and lost with a score of 72:84. The fight did not end at that match – according to the rules of the competition, the winner is determined by the sum of two meetings, so the teams still had to play in Vladivostok.

Dynamo basketball players started the return game very happily – with a 9:0 spurt: captain Vyacheslav Grachev was right from the penalty line, Ivan Strebkov made three and hit from the middle of the field, and Karpeko succeeded under the wing. A disappointing start was not part of the visitors’ plans, so the coach immediately asked for a time-out to resolve the Far East team’s starting enthusiasm. After the break, the southerners jumped back, but near the middle of the quarter, Dynamo’s advantage reached 11 points. True, the guests could not keep this line for long: the guests responded with three consecutive shots from behind the arc, although Sergei Klyuev closed the quarter with an accurate throw from a distance – 21:18.

At the beginning of the second 10 minutes, Klyuev made a three-point shot again, and after losing his opponents, he finished the attack from the paint. Dynamo soon regained the double-digit advantage, which led, with the help of Viktorov and Strebkov, to “+16” with the big break – 48:32.

At the beginning of the second half, the guests definitely started to win back: in the shortest time Doinikov and Grigoriev could reduce the gap of the Leopards to “-9”. A stop from Alexei Golyakhov came to Dynamo’s support, after which Strebkov and Kolyushkin attacked the opponent’s ring with long shots, extending their success to 24 points. However, before the last break, Grigoriev found his long shot and left “BARS” in the game – 71:55.

In the decisive 10 minutes, Kurtsevich, Gusak and Krivosheev returned to their senses. The Rostovites threw back all their efforts, reducing it to 9 points, which, based on the sum of two matches, sent them to the next round. But at the right moment, Dynamo’s Kolyushkin and Strebkov took over the campaign. As a result, the game turned into a long finish, in which Dynamo showed confidence and deservedly won not only the game, 93:78, but also the sum of the two games – 165:162.

“The mood was at its peak, the whole team understood that it would not be easy. The difference we lost in the first game was a bit important, but we did our job. We controlled the whole game and solved the problem. The result was a clear basketball with notes of sensation. There is no way without this. “Great game! First of all, the players themselves liked it, as well as the fans who came to support us in rainy weather. We started with confidence, and then Rostov stepped it up, because they have a team that is very ready to fight. But when you have a player like Ivan Strebkov on your team, you don’t have to worry about the end,” said Alexey Golyakhov, head coach of BC Dynamo, summarizing the results of the match.

In the 1/8 final, the Primorsky club will meet the winner of the pair “Temp-SUMZ” (Revda) – “University-Ugra” (Surgut). Dynamo will play their next home game at home on October 29 as part of the Super League regular season. “Tambov” comes to visit the “blue and white”.
