Dynamo, Aue, Rostock, Schalke, Bremen, HSV, St. Pauli: Strongest 2nd league of all time?

From Stefan Bröhl

GermanyThe last decisions will only be made this Sunday (from 3:30 p.m.)! But it is already clear that the 2. Bundesliga purely in terms of the name, the coming season will be even more attractive and probably more sophisticated. It could also be one of the strongest second division years of all time.

It is well known that FC Schalke 04 and SV Werder Bremen are relegated from the 1st Bundesliga, and 1. FC Köln may even be added after the relegation.

Dynamo Dresden and FC Hansa Rostock have made the leap from the 3rd division. In addition, Hamburger SV and Fortuna Düsseldorf missed the announced first division promotion and will have to make another attempt in the coming season.

In addition, there are teams like FC St. Pauli, 1. FC Nürnberg and Hannover 96 who always have the potential to be at the top if things go consistently well.

The same applies to SC Paderborn 07, 1. FC Heidenheim, SV Darmstadt 98 and Karlsruher SC, with slight reservations.

FC Erzgebirge Aue, on the other hand, has to find its way back to its old unity in this ranks of big names in order to keep relegation one more time.

That should be difficult enough in a league full of ambitious traditional clubs. After all, many of these teams want to go up. In the summer there will probably be a race and possibly even a competition for the best players – despite Corona.

For Dynamo Dresden, Hansa Rostock and Erzgebirge Aue, only relegation should count for now

Who can make the difference? One is Simon Terodde (33). The three-time top scorer in the second division decided early on to switch from HSV to Schalke and could (once again) be the player’s tip on the promotion scales.

But not only the miners are facing a change, also Bremen and possibly even the Rothosen, who have now missed the leap into the Bundesliga for the third time in a row. In addition, there may be castling in Nuremberg, Hanover and Düsseldorf.

Despite all the circumstances, there should be a lot of transfers in the next few weeks and months. Newcomers like Dynamo or Rostock have to be careful to keep up and will supplement their squad with one or the other promising player in order to be competitive one level higher.

The potential is there with the two clubs, through which the football east is now again represented with three clubs in the lower house.

Ideally, all three manage to stay in the league. But it won’t be an easy task because of the many top teams in this league.
