Dying still celebrate life and be together. Provided by hospisa support in the last stages of life

Twenty people and their relatives in Latvia have experienced a different last stage of life. One who does not desperately have to look for a place to get a special bed for his or her loved one, has to break his or her head, call or not to call an ambulance, where to look for a caregiver. At that time, their relatives could do what is most valuable to an terminally ill person in the last stages of their lives, both for themselves and their loved ones – to be together, to watch albums, to discuss unspoken things, perhaps to fulfill someone’s last wish. They could do it, because the hospice support team took care of the rest. In addition, the state helped to pay for this service. It also gave a sense of security to go through everything. More about what hospices are and what care they provide – in a conversation with Ilze Neimanis-Nešporas, Chairman of the Board of the public benefit organization “Hospiss LV”.

Experience: We continue to receive support after Dad’s death

On October 28, Dace Pētersone spent the life of her father Jānis Bumbuli (pictured). Family received hospice care services at home: “In June, when dad was discharged from the hospital, the attending physician told me that nothing could be improved, there is a tumor metastasis, go home … We have reached a stage in the Latvian care system that is like a huge empty window. we call a family doctor … At that moment we still wanted to fight, look for treatment abroad, we were ready to pay anything to help …

The last three weeks we were able to get hospice support at home were different. “
