The parkour-infested open-world zombie sequel from Techland, Dying Light 2, has – after a quite turbulent development over the years – finally got a release date. It’s coming out on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC on December 7th, and Techland has released one new gameplay trailer to accompany the news.
Dying Light 2 takes place 20 years after the events of the world’s first game were destroyed by a mutated version of the original virus. With over 98% of the population now gone, the remnants of humanity have gathered in the great city of Villedor, also known as the City. Here the new protagonist Aiden Caldwell finds himself looking for his family.
So far, Techland has really only painted the following adventures in outline, covering key points like Dying Light 2’s 2-4 player co-op, returning day and night cycles, and focusing on choice and consistency. today Developer live stream doesn’t go any further than this core concept, but makes it more concrete with a few extra details.
Everything probably started with a cycle of day and night. During the day, everything in Dying Light 2 revolves around people: While Aiden roams the streets and rooftops and explores them, he must watch out for bandits, criminals, and dangerous thugs whose sole purpose is to loot and kill. kill. However, he will also meet members of the city’s three main factions – the survivors, a group of ruthless ex-prisoners known as the Rebels, and peacekeepers determined to impose their own version of law and order on the population.
According to Techland, players’ decisions determine which factions are allies and which are enemies, while other actions shape cities and experience them in different ways. For example, the selection of story missions is said to affect the narrative and ending of the story, whereas the city alignment system can affect the world view and even the tools available.
Water and electricity, Techland explains, can be returned to any area of the open world — which is divided into two main regions and multiple zones — and players can choose which faction will take control of this important utility, which affects the appearance of a district and unlocks faction-specific tools. such as zip lines and trampolines. This can be used in conjunction with Dying Light 2’s advanced parkour system, which is said to offer more than twice as many moves as in the first game.
However, once darkness fell, exploration became much more deadly. Humanity crouched in the night and the streets were full of ferocious monsters known as the infected. On the plus side, however, the building housing the infected nests is now empty, providing the perfect opportunity to search for their valuable supplies.
Some of the above items appear in Techland’s latest Dying Light 2 trailer, while others come from interviews with the development team during today’s livestream. Techland announced that more details will be released regularly ahead of the launch of Dying Light 2 on December 7 on Xbox, PlayStation and PC.
