The race of Dwayne Johnson suffered a severe blow after the box office failure of ‘Black Adam’, to which must be added the confirmation by Zachary Levi of some rumors concerning ‘Shazam 2’. The Rock had no choice but to hit the table to address the situation, and boy, has he given it, because he has just confirmed a live-action remake of ‘Moana’ in which he will play Maui again.
Let’s remember that Johnson already gave that character a voice in the animated film released in 2016 that did quite well at the box office. However, everything indicates that he has been its excellent subsequent performance in Disney+ which could have led the studio to launch a live-action version so quickly.
It will take us a while to see it
Johnson himself has made it clear in the video that you can see above the fact that the project is still in an early stage of development, so it will most likely still take a few years to hit theaters. It is still unknown who will accompany Johnson at the head of the cast, since it is true that Auli’i Cravalhothe actress who lent her voice to Moana, will participate in the film, but will be as an executive producer.
Of course, everything indicates that this new version of ‘Moana’ will take several licenses with respect to the original film, since Johnson himself has made it clear that it is a reimagining of the stupendous adventure directed by Ron Clements y John Musker, same duo behind unforgettable titles such as ‘Basil, the super detective mouse’, ‘The Little Mermaid’ or ‘Aladdin’.
