Dwayne Johnson Appointed to UFC, WWE’s TKO Group Board of Directors

Dwayne Johnson, also known as “The Rock,” has been appointed to the board of directors of TKO Group, a publicly traded company that consists of the UFC and WWE. Johnson, a former WWE star and actor, is one of the most well-known wrestlers to come out of WWE, having won the promotion’s championship eight times. In addition to his appointment, Johnson has been granted full ownership of his trademark name, “The Rock,” which was previously owned by WWE. He has also signed a new services and merchandising agreement with WWE.

In a statement, Johnson expressed his excitement about his new role and the ownership of his name, stating that it is unprecedented and incredibly inspiring for him. He sees himself as a builder who serves the people and believes that TKO CEO Ari Emanuel is building something truly game-changing. Johnson is motivated to help expand TKO, WWE, and UFC businesses globally while representing the athletes and performers who work hard to make their dreams come true.

Despite his busy schedule with various ventures such as his TV and film studio, Seven Bucks Productions, Teremana Tequila, Zoa Energy, and Project Rock, Johnson has remained connected to TKO’s properties. He will star as MMA legend and UFC veteran Mark Kerr in an upcoming movie and is a vocal fan of the UFC. Johnson’s partnership with the UFC includes a deal for fighters’ fight-week footwear through his Under Armour apparel line, Project Rock. He is also a partner in the recently merged United Football League.

TKO executive chairman Vince McMahon expressed his pride in having Johnson join the board, stating that very few people understand the convergence of sports, entertainment, media, and business like “The Rock.” McMahon believes that Johnson’s involvement will take the company to new heights.

Johnson’s connection to wrestling runs deep as he comes from a family of professional wrestlers. His grandfather, “High Chief” Peter Maivia, and his father, Rocky Johnson, both had successful careers in WWE and are in the WWE Hall of Fame. Johnson expressed his humility and gratitude for having a seat at the table that holds decades of history and family legacy.

With Johnson’s appointment, the TKO Group’s board will expand to 13 people. Brad Keywell, the CEO of artificial intelligence company Uptake Technologies, will also join the board. The addition of Johnson and Keywell is expected to bring new perspectives and expertise to the company.

Overall, Dwayne Johnson’s appointment to the board of directors of TKO Group signifies his continued involvement and passion for the world of wrestling and combat sports. As a well-known figure in both industries, his presence is expected to contribute to the global expansion of TKO, WWE, and UFC businesses while honoring the legacy of his family in professional wrestling.
