Actor and director Juris Strenga celebrates his 85th anniversary. The “baggage” of his roles is magnificent and unforgettable – more than 60 years on the stage of the Daile Theater, as well as a number of great roles in films.

Juris Strenga was born on June 13, 1937 in Riga, but spent his childhood in Krimulda. He studied at the seven-year-old school in Krimulda village, later at the Sigulda City Secondary School No. 1 and the Jāzeps Mediņš Music High School, where he obtained the qualification of a choir conductor and singing teacher. In 1958, he became an actor at the Daile Theater.

He graduated from Daile Theater III in 1962. He continued his studies at the Cultural Education Staff Department of the Latvian State Conservatory, where he obtained the qualification of a dramatic collective director.
He has spent more than 60 years on the stage of the Daile Theater as both an actor and a director. In 2016, he received the “Players’ Night” award for a lifetime contribution.
In 2013, the film of the director Līga Gaisa about the Juris Strenga opera festival in Klapkalnciems “It’s Dull for Strenga or Summer with a Golden Calf” premiered.
Among Strenga’s most famous roles are Brands playing with Aquelina Livman in a play of the same name by Henrik Ibsen, directed by Arnolds Liniņš, the unforgettable image of the colorful villain Professor Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes, and legendary roles.
Congratulations on the artist’s anniversary!
