The twin sisters Bregje and Noortje de Brouwer made history on Thursday with second place at the World Championships in Doha. It is the first time that the Netherlands has won a World Cup medal in synchronized swimming.
The 24-year-old sisters achieved a score of 250.4979 in the free exercise. This left them only 0.275 short of gold. That went to the Chinese twins Wang Liuyi and Qianyi. The bronze went to a British duo.
The twin sisters from Goirle, Brabant, had reached the final as second. The difference with the Wang sisters was then still more than six points.
The Brabant duo finished fourth in the final of the technical performance earlier this week. Thanks to their good performances, the sisters are on course to qualify for the Paris Olympic Games. The KNZB is expected to award the Olympic tickets after this World Cup.
The synchronized duo De Brouwer finished ninth in the Olympic final at the 2021 Games in Tokyo.
