The five Dutch people who were reported missing in Slovenia have been found again. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is still seeking contact with a few Dutch people after storms ravaged the country.
A spokesman for Foreign Affairs could not give an exact number of the number of Dutch people who are unreachable in Slovenia. As far as is known, no Dutch were injured.
The ministry does not yet want to draw any conclusions now that they cannot trace some Dutch people. “People in the affected area are difficult to reach. Authorities are working hard to restore all connections and get the electricity network back up and running,” says the spokesperson. “But if your phone is washed away, for example, it is difficult to make contact.”
On Friday it was announced that two people from Gouda died in the country. According to the Slovenian police, they made a trip near a mountain in the north of the country, the Veliki Draski. It is not known how they died.
As much rainwater in a day as in a month
Slovenia, a popular holiday destination for Dutch tourists, has been hit by storms in recent days. For example, an amount of precipitation fell in 24 hours that normally falls in a month. As a result, several villages have been flooded.
The Dutch emergency centers SOS International, Eurocross and the ANWB received about a hundred requests for help from Slovenia. Eurocross received sixty reports, SOS International ten and the ANWB about thirty. Many requests for help come from people whose vehicle has broken down or whose belongings have been washed away.
The Dutch travel advice for Slovenia remains ‘green’, but there is a high risk of more floods and landslides, warns the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Travelers are advised to follow directions from local authorities and monitor media reports.
