The Top 40 will certainly remain with Qmusic for a few more years. The radio station and the Dutch Top 40 Foundation have extended their collaboration “until the end of this decade”.
Chairman Erik de Zwart of the Dutch Top 40 Foundation says that the collaboration with Qmusic is going well. “We were all pleased with a solution for the longer term. Qmusic is certainly the market leader among the younger target group. It is important that the most important Dutch hit parade is with the market leader.”
According to general director Robert Bernink of Qmusic, the hit list reaches a million listeners every week. “If you ask people what kind of music they listen to, a common answer is ‘Top 40 music’. This has made it a genre in itself and a synonym for hit music.”
The Dutch Top 40 can be heard at Qmusic since 2019 and before that at Radio 538 from 1993 to 2018. When the switch to Qmusic was a fact, Radio 538 stopped broadcasting the hit list. The Dutch Top 40 Foundation then instituted summary proceedings because it felt that Radio 538 should adhere to the contract and won it. Radio 538 had to continue broadcasting the Top 40 until January 2019.
Domien Verschuuren presents the list every Friday on Qmusic.
