That a tennis player in a fit of frustration slams the racket, or hits the ground with it in such a way that it can no longer be used, is not such an unusual image. What the Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor showed at the tournament in Indian Wells, however, deviates from “normal” practices.

The twenty-seventh seed played at the “fifth Grand Slam” in the Southern California desert against Alexander Zverev.
And the 27-year-old native of Haarlem blew the tournament six in the opening set. He led 5:3 in games, but did not serve the set.
He then had a 5:2 lead in the tie-break and two set points at 6:4.
But in the end he lost the first act with a ratio of 7:9 and Griekspoor couldn’t take it.
After losing the last ball of the abbreviated game, he threw his racket literally on the floor and her poor torso then flew towards the stand.
The angry outburst did not help the twenty-seventh player. With the new playing equipment, he also lost the second set 3:6, and after an hour and 45 minutes, the German favorite was happy to advance to the round of 16.
Zverev will face tenth seed Alex de Minaur of Australia in the next round.
