Dutch Teacher Corrects and Supplements Students’ Answers in Economics Exam

NOS News

A pre-vocational secondary education teacher at schools in Mijdrecht and Vinkeveen has corrected and supplemented students’ answers in the economics final exam. This is confirmed by the Education Inspectorate after reporting in it AD. The teacher did this with 26 of the 37 final exam candidates at the VMBO GL and TL level.

The Inspectorate received a report of irregularities from the second corrector. The teacher from another school saw that additions had been made with a different handwriting and a different pen. Because that is not allowed, the Inspectorate started an investigation into the exam that was held on Wednesday, May 17.

The school, the VeenLanden College, has emailed the parents and students and speaks about fraud, the AD writes. “The inspectorate has informed us about this and, because the teacher has admitted to whom and what improvements have been made, a fair result can still be determined for the students,” the email says.

Teacher is at home

The Inspectorate has deleted any answers from the students concerned. Those students can accept their current grade or have their exam voided and retake it.

The rector calls the incident to the AD “terrible” and does not know why the teacher did it. The teacher is now at home.
