Dutch Singer Glennis Grace Performs at Brunei Royal Party – Exclusive Access to Sultan’s Birthday Celebration

MusicThe Dutch Glennis Grace, who went viral worldwide five years ago thanks to ‘America’s Got Talent’, gave a special show in Brunei on Saturday. The singer was allowed to perform at a party of the royal family of Brunei, she says on Instagram.

The party was to mark the birthday of Crown Prince Billah, who turned 50 on Saturday. Grace was also allowed to meet the Crown Prince and his father Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah afterwards. “It was a bizarre experience that I will never forget. They even want me to come back sometime in August, so I’m a happy person,” the singer said in a Story on Instagram. “Everything went well, I sang my lungs out at the other end of the world. I’ll be home again on Tuesday, but it was really crazy.”

Glennis Grace thus joins an impressive list of artists who preceded her in Brunei. The royal family makes a hobby of bringing in the greatest artists to parties for princes and princesses. For his fiftieth birthday, the Sultan paid Michael Jackson $17 million to give concerts in a stadium for 60,000 people, which he had built especially for this purpose. Whitney Houston, who sang at his eldest daughter’s wedding, was reportedly even given a blank check.

Largest palace in the world

The wealthy and eccentric sultan, Hassanal Bolkiah, is the longest reigning monarch in the world. He has ruled the Islamic oil state on the island of Borneo with a strict hand for more than 56 years. The sultan has five sons and seven daughters by three wives, is the second richest king and lives in the largest palace in the world (200,000 square meters, cost $1.5 billion). Istana Nurul Iman has 1,788 rooms, 257 bathrooms, 18 elevators, 44 stairwells, 564 chandeliers, five swimming pools, a grand mosque, a banquet hall for 5,000 guests and an air-conditioned stable for 200 polo ponies. The interior features gold-worked carpets, diamond fixtures, rare Italian marble and the finest silks from China.

Under the palace there is a garage for 110 luxury (sports) cars. That is a fraction of his fleet of 7,000 cars, including Formula 1 racing cars, 300 Ferraris, and 500 Rolls Royces, including a gold example. There are also private planes in a hangar: two Boeings and an Airbus.
