Boudewijn de Groot stops performing. That makes the 76-year-old Dutch singer known on his website. This ends his long career on stage quite abruptly. His first concert was 56 years ago.

In the first instance, De Groot would do a farewell tour with their occasional trio Vreemd Kostnemers together with Dutch musicians Henny Vrienten and George Kooymans. Due to the corona crisis, this tour had to be postponed to 2022. But now that George Kooymans, known from the Golden Earring, can no longer perform due to the disease ALS, those concerts are also canceled. “Corona, at first, and George’s illness forced us to prematurely end our last tour as we started it early last year,” the singer writes.
De Groot speaks of “the proverbial night candle”. “But that does not mean that I will also stop making music. And write lyrics. I have already done the latter to a great extent in recent years and I hope to be able to continue doing it for a while. ”
In the 1960s and 1970s, De Groot was known as the ‘Bob Dylan of the Low Countries’. He had great success with hits such as ‘Welterusten Mijnheer de President’, ‘Het land van Maas en Waal’ and ‘Avond’. Since the nineties he has operated mainly behind the scenes for a long time, as producer of artists such as Henny Vrienten, Rob de Nijs and Stef Bos. In 1998 De Groot received the prestigious Dutch music prize Edison for his entire oeuvre.
