In the coming weeks, Van Strien will look at the possibilities of forming a coalition after the major victory of his party, the radical right-wing PVV. The Dutch newspaper NRC revealed today that Utrecht Holdings, a subsidiary of Utrecht University and the Utrecht hospital, filed a complaint against Van Strien in March. The company suspected him of “fraud and bribery in connection with stock transactions”.
According to documents obtained by NRC Van Strien transferred the shares of companies that originated from the university or hospital to an external company. In this external company, 32% of the shares were owned by his wife. The other shareholders were a former neighbor and friend of Van Strien, and his sister.
Van Strien denies that he did anything wrong. “In my view, the accusations are unfounded and I strongly distance myself from them,” he responds.
This Sunday he met with PVV leader Wilders and the chairman of the House, Vera Bergkamp. He then decided that he would simply start the exploratory talks on Monday.
