Dutch researchers go further with vaccine against malaria Inland

For the malaria vaccine, researchers created a weakened malaria parasite by removing two genes. Together with the American company Sanaria Inc. it was subsequently developed into a vaccine.

The results of the trial show that the vaccine is safe and does not lead to infection of the blood and thus does not cause malaria symptoms, the researchers said. It was also seen that the vaccinated volunteers developed a defense against a malaria infection, although this protection was not complete. This means that the disease is postponed for a short time, but is not prevented.

Malaria is one of the major infectious diseases of our time with about 216 million cases and 400,000 deaths per year. In recent years there has been an increase in the number of sick, especially in parts of Africa and in South America.
