Consumer confidence is somewhat less low this month than in previous months. We are a little less gloomy about the future in particular, according to figures from Statistics Netherlands. For example, the Dutch are less negative about their own financial situation than in the last months of last year.
In September and October last year, consumer confidence was lower than ever. Confidence stood at -59 in both months, while the average over the past twenty years was -9. The rapidly rising prices of energy and groceries, among other things, played a role in particular.
Confidence is still very low, but has recovered slightly from the low of three months ago. The indicator is now at -49.
We are now somewhat more positive about the contents of our own wallets in 2023. We are also more prepared to make large expenditures in the coming period. The Dutch are also slightly more positive about the economy in 2023.
