Dutch Oscar Entry ‘Sweet Dreams’ Set for North American Release, Director Ena Sendijarevic Wins Big

The Dutch Oscar entry Sweet Dreams will also be released in North America, reports Variety. The film was written and directed by Ena Sendijarevic.

Sweet Dreams tells the story of the Dutch sugar manufacturer Jan (Hans Dagelet). When Jan suddenly falls dead on a remote Indonesian island in the twilight of the colonial era, his family comes over from the Netherlands. It turns out that not his relatives, but his mistress Siti, inherit a large part of the property.

Sendijarevic’s work was the big winner at the Golden Calves presentation earlier this year. Sweet Dreams won six awards, including best film.

The shortlists for the Oscars will be released on December 21. The nominations for the prestigious film awards will be announced on January 23. Sweet Dreams was submitted by the Netherlands in the International Feature Film category.

The film will be released in the US by distributor Dekanalog. The release date is not yet known.
