MANAVGAT – Dutch tourists are groaning under an inferno that has been plaguing the Turkish south coast for days. Forest fires in several places are fueled by a huge heat wave and strong winds. Beaches remain as good as empty and many hotels are without or with an irregular power supply, so that the air conditioning does not work. In the popular resort of Marmaris in the affected area, a heat of 41 degrees is predicted for today, a temperature that makes fighting the fires extra difficult.
