THE HAGUE.- A prolific Dutch musician sperm donor what has fathered around 550 boys and girls worldwide was sued for allegedly increasing the risk of accidental incest.

Jonathan Jacob Meijer, 41donated sperm to at least 13 clinics, including 11 in the Netherlands, where he was blacklisted in 2017 for fathering 102 children, reported the Times of London.

Under Dutch guidelines, donors cannot father more than 25 children or impregnate more than 12 women to avoid consanguinity, incest or psychological problems for children who discover they have a large number of siblings.

I had already had an order not to donate

The 41-year-old was banned from donating to fertility clinics in the Netherlands in 2017 after it emerged he had fathered more than 100 children. Instead of stopping, however, he continued to donate sperm abroad.

A court in The Hague has asked him to provide a list of all the clinics he has used and to order them to destroy your sperm. It is also said that the man deceived hundreds of women.

According to Dutch clinical guidelines, a donor must not father more than 25 children in 12 families. They are asked to limit the number of times they offer their services, to reduce the possibility of siblings unknowingly forming a couple and having children together.

However, the judges said the man had helped produce between 550 and 600 boys and girls since he began donating sperm in 2007.

taken to court

He was taken to court by a foundation that protects the rights of donor children and by the mother of one of the children allegedly fathered with his sperm.

The point is that this kinship network with hundreds of half-brothers and half-sisters is too big,” said a court spokesman, Gert-Mark Smelt.

More than 100 of the children fathered by the man were born in Dutch clinics and others privately, but he also donated to a Danish clinic that sent his semen to addresses in several countries.

The judge Tera Hesselink said the court “prohibits the defendant from donating his semen to new intended parents after the issuance of this judgment.” He is also not allowed to contact prospective fathers “with the desire to donate semen … advertise his services to prospective fathers or join any organization that establishes contact between prospective fathers,” the judge said.

the donor “deliberately misinformed” the intended parents about the number of children she had already had In the past, the district court in The Hague said: “All these parents are now faced with the fact that the children in their family are part of a huge kinship network, with hundreds of half-siblings that they did not choose,” it said. .

The court said it was “sufficiently plausible” that this has or may have negative psychosocial consequences for children.
