Dutch ministers must hand over smartphones and laptops before meetings, but not ignore

Smartphones are not allowed at meetings between ministers in the government of Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof. Not because they can attract attention, but for safety reasons. The Dutch newspaper reports this A.D.

Members of the new Dutch government have agreed that no electronic devices will enter the meeting room during official political consultations, such as the weekly cabinet meeting on Friday or the budget council. Tablets, laptops, smartphones, smartwatches and headphones are stored in lockers at meetings – each attendee has one with their own key – located outside the room.

That has nothing to do with the distraction that electronic devices can cause at these meetings. It’s about cyber security, so it turns out A.D that is, and in particular, the risk that the meeting could be ruined. According to the newspaper’s sources, the past of the Dutch Prime Minister – Dick Schoof was a top man in the anti-terrorist service – has a lot to do with this and nobody is make it a problem.

Such a measure does not apply to our country. Politicians and their staff have no problem bringing their devices into the room during meetings.
