Dutch kitesurfer in South Africa is caught in a gust of wind and dies | Abroad

A Dutchman died this week while kitesurfing in South Africa. He was caught in a gust of wind and crashed into a building on the coast hundreds of meters away.

The 33-year-old Dutchman was taken to hospital in critical condition. There he died of his injuries.

The hospital takes into account the fact that the man ended up no less than half a kilometer from his original position. Doctors also suspect the man was thrown against several poles while attached to his surf gear.

According to the South African news site I L the man had lived in South Africa for several years. The identity of the victim has not been released.

Two days before the tragic accident, the South African Weather Service had issued a severe weather warning. There would be an almost stormy wind, with gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour. This would result in a turbulent sea, with waves between 3.5 and 4.5 meters high.
