Dutch journalists’ association NVJ expresses concerns over media concentration impact of potential merger

The Dutch journalists’ association NVJ is concerned about the consequences of too much media concentration in the event of a merger. “We have been expressing our concerns about the highly concentrated media landscape for years and this takeover would lead to even further media concentration,” says Thomas Bruning of the NVJ.

“It inevitably has a major impact at a journalistic level, because the news titles of RTL and DPG already reach a very large part of the Dutch audience. It increases the power position of an already dominant player in the Dutch journalistic media landscape and has both at an editorial level , for our members, and for the public.”
