The production of Dutch industry is still considerably lower than a year ago. A decline has been visible since January. Machine manufacturers in particular are making less.
Dutch industrial companies produced 10.3 percent less in September than a year earlier, reports the statistics agency CBS Friday. It was the ninth month in a row that industrial production shrank on an annual basis.
The contraction in September was the strongest decline since April this year. At that time there was a production drop of almost 12 percent. Most industrial sectors produced less in September than in the same month a year earlier.
Food production also decreased
Industries in the industry make rubber, plastic, food and transport equipment, among other things. The machinery industry and the chemical industry showed the largest decline in production with 28.7 percent and 12.7 percent respectively. Food production decreased by 4.4 percent.
Industrial companies often still have surplus stocks, for example from the period of the corona pandemic. In addition, the demand for products decreases, causing entrepreneurs to reduce production. Due to the rapidly rising interest rates, entrepreneurs are investing less in, for example, a new machine.
In the branch where machines are repaired and installed, production did increase by almost 30 percent. The metal industry also made more than a year ago.
