Dutch in British media: ‘That’s how legend Jim Morrison stays alive’ | Stars

entertainment">One of the first on the scene was the Dutch Imelda Bogaard, reports The Guardian. “I come here as often as I can, either on his death anniversary or on his birthday on December 8.” She tells the British newspaper that Morrison’s music brings “so much happiness.” “And it also brings everyone together.”

entertainment">Fred Verheijden, age ‘somewhere in his 70s’, visited the grave together with a friend. Both wore t-shirts with the slogan ‘Old rockers never die’ on it. But he also pointed to another slogan on the shirt, namely: ‘Light My Fire’, along with the song The End, one of the biggest hits of The Doors. “We called our trip to Paris Light My Fire instead of The End because as you can see, with all these people here, the Morrison legend lives on,” he told the French news agency AFP.

entertainment">Britain’s Michael Luke hoped to be the first to the grave on Saturday, but did not, according to The Guardian eventually a step aside so that Bogaard would be awarded that honor. “There’s a very special atmosphere here, which attracts a certain kind of people, with a stream of weird and wonderful people,” he says. “I think this reflects the interest in the music, which even after 50 years still sells millions of copies.”

Revival

entertainment">Morrison was found dead in a bathtub in a Paris hotel in 1971 at the age of 27. He died of heart failure, presumably from an overdose, although that has never been fully clarified. The American singer was notorious for his drinking and drug use.

entertainment">The Doors made numerous legendary songs such as Light my Fire, Riders on the Storm and LA Woman. Most of the lyrics were written by Morrison under the influence of substances. In the 90s the songs of The Doors made a huge revival on radio stations and (collection) CDs were reissued. That was partly due to the film The Doors by Oliver Stone from 1991 in which Val Kilmer played Morrison.
