A Dutch girl was stabbed this afternoon in the center of the Swedish city of Gothenburg. She was taken to hospital with serious injuries to her abdomen. Her condition is stable.
According to the police, the victim is a 10-year-old girl. She was with her 70-year-old grandmother. She was also injured and was treated in hospital on her arm. She was allowed to leave after a short time.
The suspect, a 35-year-old man, was overpowered by bystanders. The Public Prosecution Service suspects him of attempted murder.
It is not known why he attacked the girl. The police are also investigating whether there is a connection between the suspect and the girl and her grandmother.
