Another Dutch title still in the running for an Oscar is the stop-motion film Grunt by director Mascha Halberstad. The film was presented in the Best Animated Feature category. No shortlist has yet been announced for that category.

The film is about a girl who receives a pig from her grandfather for her birthday. She bonds with the pig, but it seems her grandfather plans to eat the animal.

The film was critically acclaimed and won a Golden Calf in the Best Film category in September. It was the first time that an animated film had received this major Dutch film award. The film also won awards in the Direction and Design categories.

“I am very proud and happy to be here and make history with our team with the first prize for Best Picture for an animated film,” said Marleen Slot, producer of Knor, at the prices of the golden calf.

On January 24, a number of contenders will retire in each category and it will become clear which titles really have a chance of winning an Oscar. The film awards ceremony is March 12 in Los Angeles.
