Dutch evacuation aircraft on the ground with technical defect

One of the two transport planes with which the Dutch and others have to be evacuated from Kabul has a technical defect. The Ministry of Defense is working hard to find a solution.

The aircraft, a C-130 Hercules, is at an airport in the Afghanistan region, probably in one of the neighboring countries. “We use other options as much as possible, such as flights from partner countries to pick up people from Kabul,” the Ministry of Defense tweeted.

So far, one flight with Dutch evacuees from Kabul has landed at Schiphol. The transport plane with 35 Dutch people, but also Belgians, Germans and British on board, arrived last night around 11 p.m.

Parting

Defense decided last year to say goodbye to the C-130 Hercules transport aircraft at an accelerated pace. The first aircraft of this type were delivered to the Dutch Air Force in 1994. In total, the Netherlands owns four Hercules transport aircraft. Two of these were previously from the United States.

Yesterday, Colonel Peter Tankink, who is primarily responsible for coordinating the evacuations from Kabul, said that the Defense organization wants to evacuate people from Kabul about three times a day in the coming period.
