Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper will present their song for the Eurovision Song Contest on March 1. With the song they will be in the first semi-final on May 9 and hope to qualify for the final.
In conversation with AD already told the duo that the song is an “ode to trial and error”. The song was co-written with Duncan Laurence and his partner Jordan Garfield. Laurence won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2019 with Arcade.
It was already announced in November that Mia & Dion will participate in the competition on behalf of the Netherlands. The two did not form a duo before: Laurence introduced them to each other. He accompanies Mia & Dion in Liverpool.
The Netherlands will meet Sweden, Portugal and Norway in the first semi-final. Israel, Switzerland and Ireland are also in the first semi-final.
The first semi-final is slightly cheaper this time, because fifteen countries compete for ten places. Sixteen countries will participate in the second semi-final, so six participants will be eliminated. Since 2013, the Netherlands has made it to the finals every year but once. Only Trijntje Oosterhuis did not succeed when she participated in 2015 Walk Along.
Traditionally, the winner organizes the Eurovision Song Contest a year later, but because of the war in Ukraine, the festivities have been moved to the United Kingdom. Ukraine will be involved in the organization in Liverpool.
This is also reflected in the presentation: the semi-finals and final are presented by both British and Ukrainian celebrities. Presenter Graham Norton, singer Alesha Dixon, actress Hannah Waddingham and Ukrainian artist Julia Sanina present the final on May 13.
