Dutch Design Week 2020: these are the highlights according to vtwonen | NOW

Attention design enthusiasts! From 17 to 25 October, Eindhoven will be dominated by the Dutch Design Week. The design event does look different from other years. Where we could normally spot the work and concepts of more than 2,600 designers spread across the city, the event will take place completely online this year. Vtwonen list a few highlights.

The new intimacy is this year’s theme of the Dutch Design Week, which will take place completely online from 17 to 25 October. It is not without reason that the festival is dominated by a search for new forms of intimacy

Intimacy has changed at an accelerated pace in recent months, partly due to COVID-19. Designers therefore show with their new inspiring concepts how we can relate to each other and the world in this new reality.

The works of these (emerging) designers are presented through, among other things, virtual talks, live streams and videos.

Design Perron

Are you curious about the final exam works of alumni from different design academies? View the virtual DDW pages of the Design Perron or designperron.nl. There the works of forty up-and-coming design talents are shown.

In addition to the works of budding designers, there is also a special object by the Dutch designer Josephine de Fijter to admire. Her design is inspired by medical treatments, which can have a profound effect on a child’s psyche and even lead to a traumatic experience.

To prevent this, she designed a cuddly toy together with the Charlie Braveheart Foundation and Studio Bibi van der Velden. This cuddly toy moves rhythmically with you during hospital treatment, which can have a proven calming effect on a child.

Dutch Design Awards

Dutch Design Awards are presented to the designers who stand out most with their work. This year these prizes will be presented in a daily online talk show, the DDA Award Show, presented by program maker and presenter Isolde Hallensleben. The talk shows go deeper into the three nominees per category (from Young designer to Fashion). Who are they, what do they do and above all, what is their project about? The show can be seen daily from 17 to 24 October at 4 p.m. on ddw.nl.

View the entire program via ddw.nl.

More design inspiration? Max Hochstenbach and Guido Lok, founders of the StudentDesign platform, show the most special design ideas at vtwonen.nl.
