Raymond van Barneveld, Danny Noppert and Dirk van Duijvenbode were eliminated in the first round of the World Grand Prix in Leicester on Monday. They immediately lost in the tournament where they had to start with a double.
Van Barneveld did not reach his level against the German Martin Schindler and lost 2-1. He erased a 1-0 deficit, but failed to take the initiative. He finished with an average of 76.69 per three darts and made use of 30 percent of his doubles.
The 56-year-old Van Barneveld, who tied the knot just under two weeks ago, has never won the World Grand Prix. In 2008 and 2009 he was a losing finalist at the prestigious tournament.
Van Duijvenbode started well against Brendan Dolan by taking the first set after ten minutes with an average of 102.48. After that it went downhill for the number ten in the world. He also lost 2-1
After Dolan’s winning arrow, Van Duijvenbode still had an average of only 69.06. The 31-year-old Dutchman reached the final of the World Grand Prix three years ago, where he lost to Gerwyn Price.
Price was too strong for Noppert on Monday with 2-0, who started well. His opponent, the 2021 world champion, was unapproachable, especially in the doubles. Defending champion Michael van Gerwen is now the only Dutchman in the tournament. He pitches against Josh Rock on Tuesday.
