Dutch cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema has won the most important British film prize for his camera work in Oppenheimer. Director Christopher Nolan’s film about the physicist who helped develop the atomic bomb is the big favorite at this year’s BAFTAs.
It is his first Bafta for 52-year-old Van Hoytema. He had a chance to win three times before, but missed out on the film prize in 2012, 2015 and 2018 with the films Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Interstellar and Dunkirk respectively.
Oscar nomination
The Swiss-born Dutchman has made a name for himself in recent years by working on a number of major international films.
Van Hoytema can also win an Oscar next month for his work in Oppenheimer. Last month he said that he is happy that his efforts “have not gone unnoticed by the Academy”.
