Düsseldorf wins against Bad Homburg

After the 0:3 defeat against Fulda last Friday, Borussia Düsseldorf is back on the road to victory in the table tennis Bundesliga (TTBL). The current German champions beat the promoted team TTC OE Bad Homburg 1987 3:0. The apparently clear result says nothing about the tension on site.

The first game was a real challenge: Dang Qiu and Csaba Andras faced each other in the Düsseldorf ARAG CenterCourt. The Olympian Qiu started the game against his opponent with an 11:8 in the opening set, the second set was closer at 13:15 for the player from Taunus. It continued like that: 11:5 for Qiu, 8:11 for Andras. And then came the set of the evening: At 2:2, Qiu was already 3:7 behind, but then turned around and finally won 11:8.

Stumper and Källberg close the bag

Kay Stumper and Anton Källberg also had to fight again in their matches against Yuma Tsuboi and Kristian Karlsson. Nevertheless, Stumper won his match 3:1, then Källberg won the Swedish duel, securing the winning point for Düsseldorf. With the 3:0 win against Bad Homburg, Borussia improved its position in the table and is now in fifth place in the TTBL with a record of 4:2. Anton Källberg is satisfied with the game: “We knew it would be a tough, close game. It feels good to win again, of course. We all played well today. Kristian and I were both fully focused and went into the game with great excitement. It just happens that we fight in the same team for a week and then face each other as opponents. We both wanted to win the game no matter what.”

Now the Düsseldorf team, who played today without Timo Boll, are taking a breather from the league. The next game will be the away match against TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau on October 9th. Bad Homburg will face Bad Königshofen on September 21st.
