Numerous employees of the Rheinbahn are organized in the local transport union (NahVG). Together with the ver.di members, they went on strike on Tuesday (February 28) and thus brought public transport to a virtual standstill. This is also what passengers can expect on Wednesday (March 1st), because the NahVG has extended its strike to two days. But it is hardly possible to take a deep breath afterwards, because there will also be a strike in Düsseldorf on Friday (3.3.). Then ver.di will organize a nationwide day of action together with Fridays for Future.
Public transport strike on March 1st and 3rd
On Friday (March 3rd), verdi is calling on the employees of the Rheinbahn to go on strike. Under the motto “Together we can do more”, a sign for climate change is set together with Friday for Futures. The global climate strike by Fridays for Future is committed to a turnaround in transport. At the same time, there will be warning strikes by the verdi trade union in six federal states.
There were buses at Südpark, but apparently no drivers
A look at the P&R parking lot at Südpark on Tuesday showed how willing the employees are to take part in the strikes. The Rheinbahn wanted to park a large number of buses there so that they could be used despite the strike and not be blocked in the depots. But apparently there is a lack of drivers, because there were always numerous buses there at noon.
Well, that’s a tough one to say right now
Among the passengers affected on Wednesday (March 1) are visitors to the Euro Shop trade fair, which has been running in the exhibition halls since Sunday. Only the S-Bahn and regional trains should run as usual. The Rheinbahn is trying to maintain an emergency timetable.

- Line U76 some trains run between the stops “Handelszentrum” and “Meerbusch, Haus Meer”
- Line U78 runs most trains
- Line U79 only runs in the Duisburg area, so it ends at the “Duisburg, Kesselsberg” stop.
