A blood sample was taken from the driver on suspicion of drunkenness – the driver’s license was secured. Nobody got hurt. Property damage occurred. The Tesla had to be towed.
Düsseldorf: Tesla driver wanted to evade police control
According to the previous investigations, the car coming from Kasernenstraße turned right into Haroldstraße in front of the police. The 28-year-old was traveling so fast that the rear broke out. When the police wanted to stop the car, the driver accelerated again and tried to turn from Haroldstrasse into Poststrasse when it was red. This failed.
The car got into the track bed of the Rheinbahn. Despite flying sparks, neither the rails nor the wagons were badly damaged. After a short ride on the tracks, the driver was able to get the Tesla out of the low track bed again. Finally, after further stop signs, the car stopped 500 meters further on Apolloplatz below the Rheinkniebrücke.
There were a total of five people in the vehicle. The driver refused a breathalyzer test. A blood sample was taken from him on suspicion of alcohol and/or drug consumption. The investigations are ongoing. (dpa)
