Dusseldorf: Track construction work causes train cancellations

Dusseldorf.
Starting January 6, Deutsche Bahn will renew the tracks at Düsseldorf-Derendorf. This causes deviations and failures. Which lines are affected.

Rail commuters should be prepared for significant restrictions for the greater Düsseldorf area at the end of the Christmas holidays. Why: Deutsche Bahn (DB) will renew the tracks in the Düsseldorf-Derendorf area in the new year. According to the transport company, the construction work on the tracks will take place between Derendorf S-Bahn station and Düsseldorf Central Station for a total of around eight kilometers between Friday January 6, 21:00 and Friday January 27, 21 :00.

According to DB, more than 7,000 tonnes of gravel and around 10,800 sleepers will be replaced. According to Deutsche Bahn, the costs amount to almost eight million euros. The platforms in Derendorf station and the adjacent platforms are to be closed for construction work.

Many trains don’t even get to Düsseldorf

This results in far-reaching deviations and partial failures, the DB further announced. During the construction period, the Regionalexpress 2 (RE) will only go as far as Düsseldorf Airport and from there back to Osnabrück. The last stop at the main railway station is omitted. The replacement traffic is guaranteed by the RE 1, RE 5 and S 1 lines.

During the construction work, the RE 3 will only run from Hamm to Duisburg, the RE 6, which runs between Minden and Cologne, will not stop at the airport, main station and Bilk stops and will run from Duisburg main station to Neuss without a stop in between. The RE 11 (Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe – Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof) will also not head towards the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia and will terminate at Essen Hauptbahnhof.

On the RE 19 line, there are no stops at Düsseldorf Airport, but according to Deutsche Bahn, Düsseldorf Central Station is direct. The RE 1, the RE 5 and the S-Bahn line S 11, on the other hand, run on schedule. The S-Bahn line S 6 is also available to all commuters as an alternative for travel to Düsseldorf. However, DB points out that journeys between Langenfeld and the Düsseldorf airport terminal will be canceled on the nights of January 7-8, January 14-15 and January 21-22.

Deutsche Bahn also points out that the construction works will have no impact on long-distance traffic. Further information on all lines that are rerouted or canceled due to track renewal can be found at: bauinfos.deutschebahn.com/nrw and through the app “DB construction work“.
