Düsseldorf: Significant increase in burglaries in NRW | Regional

Dusseldorf – The number of burglaries in North Rhine-Westphalia has increased significantly for the first time after years of decline.

In the first ten of the twelve months of this year, the police recorded 18,840 burglaries and attempted burglaries in apartments. This was 30% more than in the same period last year, according to data from the State Criminal Police Office (LKA).

Compared to the six-monthly data, in which the increase was still 36%, the increase weakened slightly in the second half of the year.

The LKA has not ruled out a connection with the omission of many corona measures. Citizens are out and about outside their homes again, which increases the chances of burglars committing crimes.

Figures are provisional and may deviate from subsequent quality assured annual statistics. (dpa/hem)
