A Rheinbahn bus and a tram on line 701 collided in Düsseldorf-Rath on Monday morning. Several people were injured in the collision, some of them seriously.
The 31-year-old tram driver and the 42-year-old bus driver had to be taken to hospital for treatment. The force of the collision caused the tram to derail and, like the bus, was significantly damaged. The rescue work took several hours. However, there were no major traffic disruptions.
According to the police, the tram driver was travelling on line 701 in the direction of Rath/Unterrath at the time of the accident. Shortly before the Dome, a 42-year-old bus driver turned left in front of her. The bus was coming from the direction of Rath and wanted to turn around there. The collision occurred at the intersection of the tracks and the lane.
According to consistent information, the tram was allowed to travel freely. The parallel traffic had a green light. Four people in the tram were slightly injured. The bus had no passengers on board at the time of the collision.
The Rheinbahn used heavy equipment to recover the tram and the bus until midday.
