Düsseldorf Panthers Secures Second Win in Regional League NRW with a 42-0 Victory over Troisdorf Jets.

Dusseldorf, June 6, 2023Head coach Matthias Karkosch’s team continued their previous performances in the Regionalliga NRW on Sunday morning and clinched their second win 42-0 in the home game against the Troisdorf Jets. After the second day of play, the Düsseldorf Panthers consolidated their place at the top of the table in their league – and that without any opponents.

Last weekend, the second match day was on the calendar in the U16 regional league NRW and the Düsseldorf Panthers welcomed the Troisdorf Jets in the Rather Waldstadion, who started the season with a defeat against the Cologne Falcons. With the best weather, the hosts created an excellent framework and with the support of the cheerleaders as well as music and moderation by a DJ, the first home game of the season started.

Like two weeks earlier against the Cologne Crocodiles, all players were highly concentrated. Both on offense and on defense, the coaches gave the necessary impetus to be able to record further success. The offense scored numerous points on the scoreboard and relied on a balanced mix of running and passing. Running back Jonas Störmer opened the scoring, who was also happy about points from his unit colleagues Niko Solisch and Fabio Gorniak and a running touchdown by QB Philip Ising. But even through the air it was no less worth seeing. The QB duo Joshua Nowrot and Philip Ising served the receivers with pinpoint accuracy. The offense moved purposefully across the field with short and long passes. The receivers Jannis Schmitt and Leo Rath each added a touchdown and thus supplemented the run yield.

But not only the offense was an important building block that day. Just as important – and more than reliable – was the defense, which gave the guests from Troisdorf hardly any opportunities to develop and the offense always made good starting positions possible. The Jets’ attempts to run were consistently stopped and the quarterback also came under pressure one or the other time when trying to pass or a Düsseldorf player.

It got exciting again at the end of the game when the Troisdorfers were just before the Panther end zone and aimed a field goal at the first Düsseldorf counterpoints of the year 2023. However, it was still a matter of aiming, because the guests didn’t have the time, they couldn’t kick anymore and so the “zero is still there”.

Directly after the game, head coach Matthias Karkosch looked to the future again: “The result is a confirmation of our hard work, but our main aim is to prepare our youngsters for the next level or the next step. Therefore, the scoreboard is not our assessment basis. It’s the little details that matter that we work on in training.”

The “golden foot” of linebacker Dennis Keldenich, who not only chases the quarterback but also hunts for points as a kicker, has not been mentioned so far and with another six points also played a considerable part in the 42-0 home win against the Troisdorf Jets.

Two games, two wins – the omens could hardly be any better before the third matchday, which takes place next weekend. As hosts, the Düsseldorf Panthers challenge the Cologne Falcons and the Domstädter come to the state capital for the top game, if you can say that after two match days. With two wins against the Crocodiles and the Jets as well, the Falcons should also have a broad chest.

In the shadow of the Düsseldorf Arena, the next four quarters decide who goes into the summer break as table leaders. The young panthers need every support for this. Kick-off is on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the small arena in the Arena Sports Park. If you want to watch football beforehand: The Düsseldorf U13s will be fighting for points at the same place from 11:00 a.m. and can use all the support they can against the Troisdorf Jets. See you at Arena Sports Park!
