After it could only take place in June 2022, the Düsseldorf Night of the Museums returned as usual in spring this year. On Saturday, April 22, the Düsseldorf Night of Museums invited visitors to over 40 museums, galleries and venues with numerous exhibitions, concerts and performances.
Due to the great diversity of the program, all visitors were able to experience very personal highlights of the night. Enchanted, the visitors left the Goethe Museum after meeting the magician Stefan Alexander Rautenberg. In the Aquazoo Löbbecke Museum, everyone could decide for themselves how close they wanted to get to the creatures of the night – they were even invited to close encounters with spiders. The many virtual dialogues with Nour, who fled Syria, at the Institut français showed how touching short messages can be.
The basilica invited to a rare journey through time underground St. Lambertus, where the crypt of “William the Rich” was open to the public for the first time in years. In the Rhine Tower, people first admired the art and the view at a dizzy height, then danced exuberantly.
Miriam Koch, Alderman for Culture and Integration: “Discovering together, celebrating together, experiencing culture together – this year the Night of the Museums brought people together again and provided unique moments. The numerous different performances, exhibitions and locations are a mirror for the wide range of cultural activities in the state capital of Düsseldorf. I would like to thank everyone involved, whose commitment ensured that the night was able to inspire so many people.”
The exhibition “Cultural Heritage of the Drinking Hall” in the House of History in North Rhine-Westphalia provided a topic of conversation, if only because of the title. Colorful, loud and full of surprises, the Street Art Festival “10 Years Turbo” in the Hotel friends. The survey exhibition by the US artist Jenny Holzer in the K21 Ständehaus once again illustrated the great power of words.
The two houses at the Ehrenhof, the Kunstpalast and the NRW-Forum, the Hetjens – German Ceramics Museum, where, in addition to a special exhibition on Japanese handicrafts, there was also an imaginative supporting program and the historic tram depot at Steinberg with Jacques Tilly’s political carnival floats in the immediate vicinity.
Even late at night people danced to Hyperpop in the Theater Museum and to EDM and House in the Rheinturm, at midnight there was a Heine Dialogue accompanied by jazz in the Heinrich Heine Institute and the guests let the night end with experimental electronic music in the Düsseldorf Film Museum.
The visitors came relaxed through the night with the three shuttle bus lines as well as the “Rolling Museums”, historic trams of the Rheinbahn from the 40s to 60s.
