Düsseldorf expects the old town to be full at Whitsun

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – For the reopening of the outdoor catering, the city of Düsseldorf is expecting many visitors in the old town and on the banks of the Rhine over the Whitsun weekend, despite bad weather. The state capital, with its outdoor terraces that will open from Friday, is like an island between cities and districts without such opportunities for relaxation, said the regulatory officer Christian Zaum on Thursday. “That is why we believe it will be full in the old town,” said Zaum, despite forecast temperatures of 13 degrees and announced rain. According to the city, around 50 to 60 percent of restaurateurs intend to open the terraces and outdoor areas to guests on the weekend of Pentecost.

Zaum said that preparations were made for an increase in controls by the security service and the police. During the day, teams from the public order office should increasingly monitor compliance with the corona regulations in the catering establishments. Following the experience of the past weekends, the evening and night checks are to be relocated to the banks of the Rhine. It is to be expected that there will be an increasing number of people romping about and the mood could also change. In the case of disturbers and a massive influx, they will intervene, dissolve accumulations and punish mask violations.

After a compulsory break for months, restaurateurs will be able to welcome guests again from Friday due to a stable below 100 victories-day incidence in Düsseldorf. As in other municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia, this only applies to the outside area. While the weather risk and the costs are too high for some hosts with a very limited number of guests, others set up a tent for corona tests.
