Anyone who lives in Unterbilk and the surrounding area and has a Vodafone connection was unable to make phone calls, watch TV or access the Internet from their landline for over a day (Wednesday/Thursday, October 9th/10th, 2024) –and after we arrived (11:15 a.m.) there were still disruptions.
According to information from t-online, there has been a disruption in Vodafone’s fiber optic cable network since Wednesday morning. Up to 5,700 customers were affected in Unterbilk, Friedrichstadt and Bilk. According to a company spokesman, the cause was a broken cable. The fiber optic feed line near the Düsseldorf arcades was damaged and repairs were costly. As of today (October 10, 2024, 8:50 a.m.), all Vodafone customers are back online. A Vodafone spokesman told RP online that it could take some time for customers’ modems to start up again. Sometimes these would have to be put back into operation manually after a long outage.
