The Düsseldorf Christmas markets will reopen on Thursday 17 November. Then it’s “Jingle Bells” or “Last Christmas” on the loudspeakers again, everything smells like toasted almonds or mushrooms in garlic sauce, and the mulled wine stalls rumble again. But inflation, the cost of energy and raw materials, world conflicts that disrupt supply chains create uncertainty on the sidelines.
Christmas market in Düsseldorf 2022: will mulled wine cost more this year?
No one needs to be afraid of massive price jumps. Because the prices for a mulled wine have only been raised by 50 cents in isolated cases and many suppliers have decided not to raise the price. This includes, for example, Mike Naseband, head of the “Glüh dich dich” event series at the Düsseldorf casemates. Every Thursday from 18.00 Small Friday is celebrated with mulled wine. As in the previous year, a 0.2 liter glass of mulled wine costs 4.50 euros.
The price of the 0.75-litre bottles, which he sells in supermarkets, has also remained the same at 4.99 euros per bottle. He actually had reason enough to raise the price. Because the wine, the bottle itself and the labels have become more expensive. Fans of the “Gluh dich dich” series are looking forward to the Unterbilk pop-up shop. Every Saturday it opens its doors at 15:00 in Bilker Allee 6, where you can also get mulled wine for up to 4.50 euros.

Stable prices for mulled wine in Düsseldorf 2022
A mulled wine stall has been open on the Burgplatz since October, and the price remains the same here, operator Sven Tusch told the “Rhenish Post” explained. As in the previous year, a cup with 0.2 liters of mulled wine, red or white, costs four euros. Mulled wine also costs four euros in the hut near the ice rink. Both stands belong to showman Oscar Bruch.
The prices at the Christmas market around the Kö-Bogen are similar. There is the “Glühtürmchen zum Olli”, where even red and white mulled wine costs four euros. You just have to shell out an extra 50 cents for the rosé. Although the operator Oliver Wilmering admits that he has increased the prices this year, he also explains that last year it was cheaper than the other providers and is therefore now average.

Even in Benrath masked people, where even mulled wine in the pedestrian area costs four euros this year instead of 3.50 euros. An increase could no longer be avoided this year, explains operator Sarah Schneider. It already refrained from an increase last year, but that shouldn’t be the case next year either.
Only in Kaiserswerth is it cheaper, although prices have risen there too, as organizer Niels Herrmann admits. However, he added the price to the bratwurst: four euros for the sausage instead of 3.50 euros. But he didn’t want to charge all the costs, so mulled wine in a 0.2 liter glass will cost 3.50 euros again this year. If you want, you can also follow the World Cup in Qatar or listen to live music on Sundays.
Where is the best mulled wine in Düsseldorf?
Tastes differ, but almost everyone agrees: The inconspicuous stand in front of the “GeschmacksSachen” delicatessen on the market square in the old town and the “Roter Hirsch” on Schadowplatz are among the best mulled wine establishments in the city. Mulled wine, on the other hand, benefits from the unique location at the “Three Little Birds” on the Rheinterrasse – or high above Düsseldorf on the roof terrace of the Dreischeibenhaus. Mulled wine with a view of the Ferris wheel at Burgplatz
The “Wheel of Vision” again sets a successful visual accent on the Burgplatz this year. From a height of 55 meters you can admire the sea of lights of the city in the heated gondolas. If you prefer to look at the Ferris wheel from below, preferably with a glass of mulled wine in hand, you can do so at the stalls right in front of it.
